- Documentation Module. You can now compile to a Printable
manual, MS Word compatible document or with Fast-Help and
above, to PDF as well
Website Help. With Fast-Help and above you can now compile
your data as a fully working website, complete with table
of contents, index and search engine
- Customizable Html Header section. You can now specify
what appears in the HEAD section for each Topic
allowing you
to use your own JavaScripts, Character Sets or whatever
else you may need.
- Tasks. You can now manage all your Todo's
- Auto Scroll support for mouse-wheel
- Nonscroll support in Html
- Conditions. Replacing Filters. Conditions are similar
to the concept of conditional compiles in
languages such as
Delphi and C++
- Browse buttons now added and automatically
managed for Nonscroll regions
- Integrated Hotspot editor
- Thesaurus
- Merge support for HtmlHelp Projects
- Unicode support. You can now enter text in
any language in the world
- Bi-directional editing and support
for Asian and Eastern languages
- The Translation Assistant has been
completely rewritten and now
sports a much more
intuitive interface

- Keywords: In v2 you
could add keywords above the help text. Now there is
a central Index which
mimics what you see in your compiled help file. You
can add keywords by using the toolbar button on the
Index tab,
or by right-clicking selected text in the editor and
selecting "Add
as a keyword" from the menu
- Complete rewrite
- No more Font Registry. You can now add whatever fonts
you like and these will be managed internally by
Fast-Help.
- Popups in HtmlHelp. Previously you could only create
Text Popups, a limitation of Microsoft's HtmlHelp.
However, we have overcome this
limitation and offer
you three possibilities. [1] Continue to use Text Popups. [2] Html
Popups, which use an activeX. [3] WinHelp Popups within a CHM file,
as Microsoft's own help
system does. This gives you maximum flexibility and you can flick
between any of these choices at the click of a
button
- No more ruler. As help systems become more Html centric
rather than document centric, the concept of a
ruler is less relevant and has
been dropped
- Tabs were always a problem with WinHelp and HtmlHelp.
Now tabs are handled using cascading style sheets
in a more intelligent
way, but
tabs are a document centric
concept and have a lesser role in html. But the effect of the
new editor in Fast-Help is that you will get a
much more consistent
result no
matter what you type or
tab in
- No more Inheritance. The inheritance feature was deemed
to be rarely used and did not merit the huge maintenance
to continue
it into
v3
- WinHelp support for 16bit help files, for use in Windows
v3.1 has been dropped
PocketPC support is not in the first release of v3 as it
was not ready. We are working on a much more powerful PocketPC
release for the near
future.
- Database back end has now changed to the MS Access
format
- Table support is now complete. There is now huge flexibility
in what you can do.
- Links are now much more powerful
- Variables now support full formatting whereas before
they were plain text
- Style support
- Much more powerful html export features in the new
and more powerful editor
Contents editor is now on the main tab. Split
View and Contents View have been merged
- Filter View is gone and now there is a Properties
tab below the help text editor where you can
change properties
- Drag and
drop support in Contents
- Popups
are now handled separately from Topics and have their
own tab at the bottom of
the contents section
on the left.
